An epic fantasy in five volumes

Bells

Twenty-six chapters · a broken garrison, an army of the unsworn, and the great bell under the mountain

Karthen has held the northern pass for four centuries. Then a wagon bell is hauled down the pass and rung outside the walls, and half the garrison turns on the other half. They are awake, some of them weeping, and they cannot stop.

A buried sovereign has found a way to command the armies of the kingdom that defeated him, through the oath they swore, sounded by great iron bells hauled to every battlefield. Commander Rovan Tal escapes with a few hundred survivors and a story no one will believe, except the battle-mage Maelin Rennick. Together they must raise an army from everyone the bells cannot reach, and carry the war south to the mountain where the great bell hangs. Written to be read straight through, or a chapter a night.
